Google Maps for Mobile Updated to 4.0 – Lots of Buzz, No New Navigation

Google Maps for Mobile has been upgraded to version 4.0, with Android and Windows Mobile seeing the first releases of the new version.
The main new feature appears to be Google Buzz support, but as usual from Google, no full change list is available.
This major release jump from 3.3.1 (3.4 on Android) continues the waiting game for Google Maps Navigation to land outside of Google’s own Android platform. The first-ever free turn-by-turn live GPS navigation system is still only available for Android 1.6 and up. Google has said that they plan to make Maps Navigation available for as many platforms as is possible outside of Android. Google’s chosing to upgrade their Windows Mobile branch of Maps for Mobile simultaneously with Android, may be an early indicator that Windows Mobile will be the next platform to receive Google Maps Navigation.

Google Maps for Mobile is available and supported on Android, BlackBerry, Java (J2ME), Symbian, and Windows Mobile.
