The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic handset is more than just a music phone. This mobile has a 3.2-inch touchscreen that makes it ideal for sizing up apps. It already comes stacked to the mobile rafters with a host of applications, but we’re all for squeezing a few more, especially if they’re gratis. So, without further ado, we present our top five free apps every 5800 should be filled with…

1. Stew
If you love using Twitter then be prepared for Stew, as it allows you can read the latest postings, send your own Tweets and generally stay in touch with friends all in fullscreen action. This is a limited version – you can follow links, for example – but it’s still a knock-out Twitter app.

2. Dabr
According to its creator, Dabr is ‘Twitter on Steroids’ as you can do everything you can in Twitter but more. That means you can post pictures, PM your contacts as well as run Searches and even ReTweet messages. So, it’s not strictly an app but a mobile service but we love it nonetheless and reckon you will too.

3. Google maps
Everyone should have this app on their Nok, it’s that good. Largely because it delivers the same experience as the desktop version, so you can search for any location and find directions in the shortest time available. What’s more, you can even get up-to-date info on the place you’re going, such as opening times and phone number, which may prove invaluable.

4. Opera Mini 5
This latest version of the Opera Mini browser has been optimised to take full advantage of the Nokia 5800 touchscreen. What’s more, it’s the smoothest and quickest loading release yet. It’s worth bearing in mind that Mini 5 is still in Beta phase, so there may be the odd bug or flaw but we still think it’s one of the better web browsers out there.

5. Qik
Make the most of the video camera on your Nokia 5800 using this live streaming app. That’s right, Qik enables you to share video as soon as you capture it simply by streaming it straight to online account so others can watch things unfold. It’s not only live video, as you also send your video straight to other sites, such as YouTube and even Twitter, making this the perfect video-buffs app.
