The BlackBerry® Torch™ smartphone family is welcoming a whole slew of new siblings today. In addition to the all-touch BlackBerry® Torch™ 9850 and 9860 smartphones, we also announced the BlackBerry® Torch™ 9810 smartphone, the evolution of the popular BlackBerry® Torch™ 9800 smartphone. #TeamBlackBerry members in North America will be able to purchase the BlackBerry 9810 smartphone from AT&T, Bell, Telus and Rogers. For more details on pricing and international availability, make sure to check out our BlackBerry Torch product page or contact your local carrier.

Our intention with the BlackBerry Torch 9810 smartphone was to build upon the success of the original BlackBerry Torch all-in-one design by combining powerful new hardware with the powerful new BlackBerry® 7 OS. The new BlackBerry Torch 9810 improves upon its predecessor, the BlackBerry Torch 9800, with a crisp new 3.2” inch touch screen with a VGA (600×480) resolution at 246 DPI (“dots per inch”), which is a great tip-off to the new hardware under the hood. The BlackBerry Torch 9810 smartphone also features a 1.2 GHz processer, a 5 MP camera with HD video recording, face detection and image stabilization, a digital compass and HSPA+ network support. Combined with the BlackBerry 7 OS, these new hardware features ensure that the BlackBerry 9810 smartphone is faster and more fluid than its predecessor.

We’ve also added subtle refinements to the traditional BlackBerry Torch casing, as well as its keypad. To top it off, we coated the BlackBerry Torch 9810 smartphone in a distinctive silver color that we feel reflects the power and performance of the device.

Unlike its new siblings, the all-touch BlackBerry Torch 9850 and 9860 smartphones, the BlackBerry Torch 9810 smartphone features the original Torch’s popular full QWERTY keypad, touch screen, trackpad combination. With a touch screen larger than its new cousins, the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and BlackBerry 9930 smartphones, the BlackBerry Torch 9810 is a flexible device for people who require both form and function from their smartphone.

Like the other new all-touch BlackBerry Torch smartphones, the big, brilliant touch screen of the BlackBerry Torch 9810 is well-suited for 3D games, watching videos and browsing the web. If you need to get some work done on the go, that screen is also handy for viewing Microsoft® PowerPoint® and Microsoft Word documents with the free bundled Premium version of Docs to Go™. Of course, if you need to start editing those documents, or you want to fire off a few emails or BBM™ your friends, you can easily switch to portrait mode and slide out the full QWERTY keypad. The BlackBerry Torch 9810 smartphone’s HD camera captures photos or video and makes it easy to share both with friends via Facebook, Twitter, and BBM 6 (or possibly through that BBM 6-connected app you’ve downloaded). Regardless of your needs, the BlackBerry 9810 smartphone offers the flexibility to get it done.

Like the all-touch BlackBerry Torch 9850 and 9860, the BlackBerry Torch 9810 smartphone is running the brand new BlackBerry 7 OS, and thus shares many of the same benefits. For starters this means a new and improved BlackBerry browser, optimized touch screen UI (“user interface”), BBM 6, hardware accelerated Liquid Graphics, and support for new apps like the Wikitude augmented reality browser on the BlackBerry App World™ storefront. Make sure to check out what my coworkers Sangita and Troy had to say about these BlackBerry 7 features in their BlackBerry Torch 9850 and 9860 post, and stay tuned for a more in-depth overview from BlackBerry 7 Product Manager, Annu, in a future blog post.

For my money, my favorite BlackBerry 7 feature has to be the next generation BlackBerry browser. The BlackBerry browser is smooth and responsive, whether scrolling through web pages with your fingers or using the trackpad. Web pages load at tremendous speeds, and are naturally rendered as you’d expect to see them on your desktop browser, thanks to Liquid Graphics.

There’ve been persistent rumours of a Blackberry slidephone coming to the market, and even a couple of spy shots, but today, we get to the device properly, in some beautifully clear photos… and it looks mint! You may remember seeing the name on these pages before, and that’s because TechnoLiz did a post about it not long ago.

In those spyshots, it looked fairly decent, but I’m happy to say that, in the new clear photos that I saw on EngadgetMobile, it looks oh so much nicer. Well, let’s be honest, it looks like a cross between the Storm series and Bold series, which is hardly surprising considering that the Blackberry Bold 9800 (that’s it, to the right) is a basically a Bold phone with a touchscreen.Alas, it seems you don’t get the same quantum-powered clicky touchscreen that you get on the Blackberry Storm 2 (or the Storm 2: Judgment Day, following the correct and proper Terminator-themed naming system), but the pay-off (and it’s a big pay-off to a lot of users) is that you get a full, slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

Unfortunately, however, when it comes to specs, I have no clue what this beastie’s capable of. No idea how fast the processor is, no idea how big the camera is, and no idea how long the battery’ll last. Sorry about that. All we can say for definite is that it’ll run on Blackberry OS 6, and it’ll be really rather good at emails. ‘Cos it’s a Blackberry. Obviously.

Anyway, I’m a little bit excited, as I always had a soft spot for the Blackberry Storm 2… sorry, Storm 2: Judgment Day, so I really would rather like to get my grubby paws on one to have a fiddle about with.

<!-- Powered by Shantz WP Prefix Suffix.
The folks at BBLeaks have posted some leaked spy photos of the upcoming mid-range BlackBerry Curve 9300. As likely, the handset is very akin to the Curve 8520, which is sort of replacing. Coloring aside, the handsets materialize to have the same plastic body casing, right down to the keyboard. However, it seems like the Curve 9300 is getting some humble upgrades.
This Curve 9300 is codenamed “Kepler” and the pictures show off that it’s still running BlackBerry OS 5 – at least at this point on this pre-release handset. The tipster purposefully mentioned that the handset is able of OS 6 support. The handset has 802.11n support, along with the 3G (the Curve series, being the user BlackBerry, didn’t have 3G support until recently).

The handset will have “more” memory than the Curve 8520. The curve had 256MB of RAM. Newly, the Bold 9650 came out with 512MB of RAM, so it’s not impossible that we’ll see the Curve 9300 get an alike RAM upgrade. While it’s true that the Curve string is RIM’s consumer line, they have gone to the Curve series first with some innovations, like the optical trackpad, which first came out on the Curve 8520.

It’s being suggested time and time again from multiple sources that BlackBerries will need at least 512MB of RAM to use BlackBerry OS 6.0. This seems a bit hard to believe, considering that 99% of RIM handsets won’t be able to run it, but if true, it would make sense that they’re starting to roll out more memory to all phones, including the mid-range Curve 8520

If you’re anxiously awaiting the release of the BlackBerry 9650 on either Sprint or Verizon then it would appear that you may have to keep your expectations in check as a purported source at RIM is quoted as confirming that both networks are holding back on the release of the BlackBerry 9650 for the time being.

The blogosphere leak machine is in action – and this time it’s the rumoured BlackBerry Bold 9800 slider that is the focus of attention.

The photographs on TheBerryFix reportedly show what the site says is an apparently late prototype or early production model of the slider phone.

And while the photographs show off quite a few new features, the most interesting may be that the high-end smartphone has two keyboards, yes count it, two keyboards. As far as quirky or innovative features go this is a strange choice for BlackBerry. I can understand them going for one or the other in an attempt to attract new customers and compete with Apple, HTC, Nokia and Sony Ericsson.

After all Apple, Sony Ericsson an HTC are dominating the touchscreen market with the iPhone 3GS, HTC Desire and Xperia X10. While, Nokia’s enjoyed success with its slider phone the N97 and Sony Ericsson is soon to release its latest X10 phones – the Xperia X10 Mini and Xperia X10 Mini Pro.

BlackBerry 9800 slider (as seen on TheBerryFixer)And I can get BlackBerry wanting to get in on the action but you’d think they’d go for two phones with one being a slider and the other being a touchscreen, like the Blackberry Pearl 3G 9105 and the BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9100. Wouldn’t you? I can’t believe that customers would want a two-in-one, “I’m in a slide-out mood today” or “I just have to go touchscreen now” are just not thoughts I think people have. And if they are, post a comment below and enlighten me.

Getting over the two-in-one aspect, I’m also not convinced people really want BlackBerry to copy its rivals. It has a fairly iconic, if big, phone design which people are increasingly growing to like… there is also the fact that I don’t like change.

And while I’m not overly keen on having touchscreen keyboard when there’s a capable slide-out keyboard, the phone does promise to have improved general touchscreen capabilities which has been a bit of an issue for the brand’s manufacturers Research In Motion.

MobileCrunch claim BlackBerry have responded to criticism of its previous touchscreen attempt the Storm and dropped its SurePress Technology – a system BlackBerry had developed to try and recreate the feel of a physical keyboard on a touchscreen. Users had complained the screen went funny when they pressed it, so this news will hopefully bode well for a smoother experience.

Other things to note include the BlackBerry 9800 slider’s screen size. For those who think BlackBerry screens can be on the small side compared with its smartphone rivals (some do apparently) – this could be the phone for you. The screen appears to be bigger than three inches but by how much it’s hard to guess. However, that would still be an improvement on the BlackBerry Bold 9700 with its 2.6 inch screen.
