User review:

“Pictures taken with the camera are excellent. While many phones’ cameras produce murky, lifeless shots, the neo captures colours accurately, and images had plenty of detail. Low-light shots had less noise than those from most handsets and there’s an LED flash to help, but twilit shots were still significantly worse quality than those you’d get from a decent compact camera.
The neo has a 1GHz single-core processor. It’s a fairly inexpensive phone, so this is to be expected – we tend to only see dual-core processors on higher-end handsets. It still runs Android 2.3 smoothly and Sony Ericsson’s interface tweaks don’t seem to impact its performance. These tweaks are generally welcome, but we’re not so keen on the Timescape social networking app, which displays updates on your home screen and makes it a bit of a mess. This is easy to turn off, though. “

Sony Ericsson continue to produce handsets that they hope will rock the smartphone world and the Arc is their top of the range.

Like most of the new Xperia smartphones, the Arc has a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with 512 RAM.
For me this is the Arc’s biggest problem. As things stand, this is powerful enough to compete with the best phones around and certainly sizes up to the HTC Desire HD but the fact that Nvidia Tegra 2 chipsets are going to be all the rage in Q2/Q3 2011 means that while the Arc looks like a beast at the moment, it will fall behind very soon.
The fact the LG Optimus 2X looks ready for launch sporting the Tegra 2 may completely steal the Arc’s thunder sooner rather than later.

An improvement the Arc has over the Desire HD is the battery where they’ve managed to fit a 1500mAh inside this wafer thin phone.
The 1230mAh battery in the Desire HD meant that the phone struggled to make it through a day of heavy-ish usage. Something that isn’t a problem on the Arc.
Like the Neo and Pro, the Arc has an 8.1 MP camera with LED flash and the great set of photo settings that comes with most Sony Ericsson phones such as face detection and image stabilisation.
I have to say that all three phones (Arc, Neo and Pro) take fantastic pictures, probably the best I’ve seen on a smartphone which might be due to the Exmor R CMOS sensor that is being packed into the new SE phones.

-The Arc also has a microSD slot which is expandable up to 32GB.

Software

With regards to software the Arc runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread which is the latest version of Android (getting the latest Android was something Sony Ericsson struggled with last year).
Gingerbread runs smoothly and, as you’d expect of Android, is full of wonder but the burning question for most is what have Sony Ericsson done with their skin?

As many of you will know, their version of Android failed miserably last year as Timescape was by far the most annoying addition to Android in 2010.

For those of you that don’t know what Timescape is, it’s a social-networking add-on that compiles your Facebook and Twitter updates together for your contacts. Sounds good right? The problem was that the frequency of the updates made it messy and clicking through an update takes you to Twitter/Facebook and not the update so you’d need to log in and be really annoyed.
I was happy to see that extensive work has been done on the skin. Timescape is now an annoying widget that you can quite easily bin.
Mediascape has also had a makeover as it now runs much smoother with the music widget working extremely well and is now a much more pleasant experience offering a far better alternative to the default Android player.

Design

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc is thin, 8.7 mm in fact. That is the first thing you’ll notice about it. It’s the thinnest smartphone on the planet, so those iPhone 4 commercials will have a limited run.
Now don’t get me wrong, I understand that the lack of metal makes the phone lighter but my personal preference is to have a solid and heavier phone, like the Desire HD.

The 4.2-inch (854×480-pixel resolution) screen is TFT LCD which I found clear and colourful. Pictures looked crisp and it was a truly a joy to use. It’s not as good the iPhone 4 but then, there isn’t much that is at the moment.
In addition to the Exmor R CMOS sensor, Sony Ericsson have also added the Mobile Bravia Engine to improve image processing to deliver amazing colours and picture quality.

This works amazingly well. I watched How to Train Your Dragon and was really impressed with the clarity and sharpness on the screen. However the Bravia engine only kicks in when powering up a video but it’s a welcome addition all the same.

The Arc records 720p video and has a mini-HDMI port to not only watch video on your TV but the phone can also double up as a remote as well as allowing you to do everything on the big screen. So 42 inch Angry Birds here I come!

Sony Ericsson has revealed the W8 Walkman Android handset in a low-key announcement. The phone has appeared in the product section on Sony Ericsson’s with no attached press release. From what we can tell the handset appears to rebadged Xperia X8 with Walkman branding, although it does come with a MH 410 stereo headset.

It comes with the same four-corner shortcut UI as the Xperia X10 mini and X8 smartphones and has quick and easy to access playlists. Like the Xperia X8, the W8 comes with a 3-inch display and features a 3.2MP camera and 3.5mm headphone jack. Also, like the X8 the handset only comes with Android 2.1 Éclair (rather than v2.3.2 Gingerbread seen on recently released handsets). The phone will be available in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam from Q2 2011 in three different colours (Azur, Metallic Red and the iconic Walkman Orange).
The Sony Ericsson Walkman W8 is as important in the recovery of Sony Ericsson is a major player in the industry of high-end smartphones after the company was slightly less successful in recent years. The main reason for the lack of success in the industry due to the lack of touch screen models from Sony Ericsson. This is due to the lack of surprise factor phones, which are usually presented in the previous Ericsson phones. Now he’s back with the Sony Ericsson Walkman W8, which was recently announced by the company.

The incredible success of touch screen phones from other manufacturers was mainly due to the incredible options that are also associated with the phone. Now comes in the form of Sony Ericsson Walkman W8 music media in the best way possible. It will support the capacitive touch screen 3 inches found on the phone. Offers a resolution of 480 x 320 pixels, which could be in some small inconvenience. However, given the screen size will be very difficult to realize the imperfections on the screen. The presence of the title in the Walkman phone suggests that it is as good as the previous phones that the department if not better.

Could be better than the previous phone is due to the availability of two different forms of memory. The internal memory offers 128 MB of space content, while the expandable memory option that supports up to 16 GB. Even if the phone does not come with any standard memory card, buying one is certainly a very difficult situation for all the prices of memory cards have dropped like a stone.

The Sony Ericsson Walkman W8 also offer a decent 3.15 megapixel camera, which can not be offered with a number of features, but can still take high quality pictures with a little knowledge to take pictures. The Sony Ericsson Walkman W8 uses a 600 MHz processor, which is used on the phone to run the Android operating system 2.1. It is not known if the phone will receive the upgrade to version 2.3, which was published recently. Since the balance between performance and the latest versions of the operating system is very difficult to achieve, using version 2.1 of Android is not going to be criticized. The Sony Ericsson Walkman W8 offer three different colors of blue, orange and red. The Sony Ericsson Walkman W8 uses a 1200 mAh battery for longer battery life over the competition. After this, the phone offers up to a day of music playback when fully charged battery. Is a statistic that can not be matched by any phone in the competition for you. This phone from Sony Ericsson will be available later this year.

Unlike the MP3 and AAC audio codecs this doesn’t reduce the audio quality and delivers the best experience with the proprietary Clear Audio technology! Another key feature on the Sony Ericsson Zylo mobile phone is TrackID – which allows users to access the name and artist of a track they hear playing. This function has proved popular with music lovers with 129 million TrackID lookups in 2009 alone! This is really amazing, isn’t it?
. Color options will be Black contrast, Pink sunset, Green spring and Black stealth.
