One way to install apps on an Android phone is through the Android Market, but what if you have an APK file and want to install that manually? Android allows you to install third-party apps on your phone, but with a little option that you have to check in Settings.

Android 2.2 has flown out of Google’s Android studios and is heading to Google Nexus Ones across the world. Read on to find out how to update yours.

This update will only work on Google Nexus One handsets using the standard stock firmware, so if you have rooted your phone, you’re out of luck. The first thing to do is download the Android 2.2 firmware. Once this has been downloaded, change its file name to “update.zip”.
